Meet Joel Camann

Why am I running? 

 ·       Because many Texans are hurting, and I want to help. 

·       Because we have prominent Republican politicians in the United States and in Texas that are abusing their power, breaking laws, ignoring the Constitution, and trying to cling to power by any means necessary, and I want to hold them accountable for their actions. 

·       Because a lot of politicians seek to benefit themselves and/or a particular class of people, and I want to find fair solutions for all Texans. 

·       Because the incumbent in my district, an anesthesiologist sworn to protect the lives of his patients, is one of the major authors of the abortion bill in Texas which, since being enacted, has damaged and even killed Texas women.

 Hi, my name is Joel Camann, and though I am running for Texas House District 130, I am not a politician.  I am a native Texan, a patriotic American, and an environmental engineer with 27 years of professional experience in finding solutions to help my industrial clients protect the environment.  I want to bring this common-sense approach to Austin, working with experts and people that may have different or even competing interests to find solutions that benefit all Texans.  I have done that my whole career!  And I am ready to fight hard to preserve the Texas and United States I grew up in for future generations, stopping those who would trample on our freedoms so they can maintain their power.

 Experience matters!  Between my years of experience as a professional outside of politics and my balanced political views, I believe I am the best candidate to defeat the incumbent in an election that could determine whether our democracy can survive the current presidential administration.

Issues

  • Ensure adequate funding and curriculum based on reality and inclusion free from political bias and falsehoods. Republicans have excluded climate change from the curriculum.  We need to educate the next generation about climate change so they can continue to develop solutions.

  • No woman should die because of Texas abortion laws – that is inexcusable.

  • Implement MULTIPLE solutions to help prevent mass shootings, including common sense gun legislation, background checks, and mental health services. Civilians should NEVER outgun police.

  • Health care is a right, not a privilege. Win-win solutions are needed. This issue is personal for me, I have family members that struggle to afford basic health care.

  • It’s time for politicians to listen to experts rather than trying to create their own realities and politicize science, whether the issue is climate change, vaccinations, or drugs. As an environmental engineer, it is insulting to me that politicians with a background in law think they know more about climate change than climatologists.

  • Physicians should be free to prescribe measures that help their patients. As someone who helplessly watched his mother suffer the effects of cancer before she passed away, I am outraged that politicians in Austin would not let her doctor prescribe treatment he felt would be appropriate to ease her pain.

  • My professional background as an environmental engineer makes me uniquely qualified to address water sourcing and water quality concerns.

Republican Behaviors That Must Stop

  • Incumbent Texas HD 130 Rep. Tom Oliverson Supports Dangerous Texas Abortion Laws

    The incumbent for Texas House District 130, Dr. Tom Oliverson, an anesthesiologist who took an oath to protect the lives of his patients, has written bills against abortion in Texas. Laws that have been enacted as a result of these bills have actually led to the deaths or severe damage to several women in Texas.

  • President Trump Wants to Steal Territory from an Ally

    One characteristic common to dictators is that they act with impunity. Might makes right. If they have the power to take territory by force and they want it, they take it. We’ve seen it with Putin and Ukraine. Now Trump wants to take Greenland from Denmark, an ally, by force if necessary. Denmark has already indicated they have no interest in parting with Greenland.  As if that is not enough, Trump has threatened other allies with additional tariffs if they will not support his takeover of Greenland. Trump is destroying our international standing. That an American president would behave this way should send chills down every American’s spine. This is not who we are.

  • Executions by ICE Agents Are Out of Control; the Trump Administration Should Be Investigating

    Two citizens have now been executed by ICE agents in Minnesota. In the latest incident, Alex Pretti was shot by ICE agents approximately 10 times AFTER agents had retrieved his gun and while he was lying on the ground, according to CNN analysis of witness videos. This type of violence perpetrated by law enforcement should be investigated by an independent agency and condemned. Instead, the Trump Administration has placed the Homeland Security Investigations Branch in charge of the investigation into its own officers. Meanwhile, Trump blames the mayor of Minneapolis, the Governor or Minnesota, and claims (without a shred of evidence) that the shooting is “A ‘COVER UP’ FOR THE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS THAT HAVE BEEN STOLEN FROM THE ONCE GREAT STATE (BUT SOON TO BE GREAT AGAIN!) OF MINNESOTA!”

  • US Sinks to New Low in Corruption Index Thanks to Trump

    Trump’s actions were cited as contributing to the United States’ lowest‑ever ranking on the global Corruption Perceptions Index. His administration paused investigations into corporate foreign bribery, curtailed enforcement of a foreign agent registration law, and temporarily froze enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, signaling greater tolerance for corrupt practices. He has used government agencies to threaten and intimidate his perceived enemies, including the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, and has also weakened institutional checks by targeting independent voices and undermining judicial independence. These measures, according to Transparency International, accelerated the decade‑long decline in the U.S. corruption score.
